In 1985, during a visit of Florence, Steve Jobs was deeply impressed by the gray-blue color of the city’s sidewalk stone. Seventeen years later he decided to use that same sandstone, called pietra serena, to cover the (wooden) floors of all Apple stores.
The Pietra Serena is extracted from a family-owned quarry called Casone, which is located in Firenzuola, right outside of Florence. It is has a very uniform grain and color, which makes it perfectly in line with Jobs’ design, focused on simplicity and sophistication.
The Casone Group is a leading company in the sector of the extraction and the manufacturing of the pietra serena. The company’s perfect knowledge of this material, which is the result of a long family tradition, translates into high-quality works with significant projects in Italy and abroad.
